Basewax™ waxes for lubrification

Generally, the more polar the wax, the more compatible it is with the commonly used materials, such as PVC and ABS polymers allowing for the internal lubrication of the system. As a result of this compatibility, the wax is able to impact performance at a molecular level, influencing properties such as melt strength and flow performance. In addition, their high affinity to the plastic matrix allows for excellent transparency, even at high doses. Additionally, it tends to minimize surface migration, which has a negative impact on adhesion characteristics such as printability, bonding and welding.

Low polarity or non-polar waxes are used to provide external lubrication in compounding. Their primary role is to provide lubrication and release between the polymer material and the metal surfaces of the forming process (extrusion and injection molding). Optimal performance relies on the correct balance of molecular weight, chain morphology and polarity to achieve the desired effect with minimal addition level. Excessive dosage level can lead to poor optical properties and excessive surface contamination leading to bonding issues.

Paramelt offers a number of formulated Basewax™ products for the polymer processing industry. More commonly, we supply tailored blends of internal and external lubricant waxes, developed in partnership with our customers to meet their specific application requirements.
