Aquaseal ®

The last decade Paramelt has been active in formulating aqueous polymer dispersions. They are based on unplasticized, high molecular weight thermoplastic ethylene co-polymers. In its ethylene backbone, acrylic acid groups are present.

The polymer dispersions can be supplied in co-polymer or in ionomer form. Both systems offer unique features. The choice is strongly influenced by the specific requirements.

This structure offers the following properties:

  • film forming at 80-90°C
  • chemical resistance
  • water resistance
  • though, scratch resistant
  • good adhesion to polar substrates like metal, paper and glass
  • high clarity

They can be used in the following area´s:

Primer prior to extrusion
Due to it´s perfect adhesion to polar substrates like aluminium foil, Aquaseal is the ideal primer to be applied prior to extrusion of polymers which are more difficult to directly to the substrate like PE. Aquaseal has excellent affinity to both materials and a strong bond is achieved.

Protective varnish
Aquaseal applied as a protective varnish is an ideal solution to protect print work or to increase durability of substrate. It offers chemical and water resistance and can be applied by normal printing or coating techniques. When dried at 80-90°C a closed film is formed.

Glassfiber sizing
Aquaseal has excellent adhesion to glass. The polymer which stayes behind is very tough, thus increasing the internal strenght.

Anti-corrosion coating
For the steel industry temporary rust-protectives are essential. Having an excellent adhesion to metal substrates, this water based, solvent free system offers ideal properties to reach good corrosion protection.
