The following waxes have been formulated into aqueous dispersions:
- paraffin
- microcrystaline
- carnauba
- oxidised LDPE
- oxidised HDPE
- oxidised Fischer Tropsch
- montan
They are used for the following reasons:
Friction reduction
A dispersion will leave behind a very thin amount of lubricating wax so that friction during production is reduced and that sensitive surfaces, like glass, are not being damaged.
Protective coating
Waxes are known to reduce moisture vapor transmission. This is a well known technology for the fruit industry where coatings are being used to protect the citrus fruits, mango´s etc from drying out.
Wax dispersion can also be used to protect moist sensitive ingredients.
