Position Summary

The Automation and Electrical Engineer is responsible for all electrical and automation aspects of projects and processes as well as engineering support within the Operations teams. This position supports manufacturing, process improvement, capital projects, and maintenance projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Global Automation and Engineering team reporting on local projects as well as on global projects where applicable.
  • Works collaboratively with Operations to understand processes, then develops and implements automation solutions.
  • Works with vendors and contractors from the procurement stage, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Efficient project management ensuring projects are technically accurate, comply with specifications and regulations, timelines, and budgets.
  • Executes projects within a full project cycle (including User Requirement Specifications, detailed design preparation and review, FAT, generation of Basic Engineering Packages, software and control strategy testing and quality assurance as per automation best practices, implementation and commissioning, loop checks, plant start-up) while providing technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Maintains an updated and accurate library of on-site electrical drawings.
  • Incorporates innovation, optimization, and standardization in process designs.
  • Designs electrical, automation and/or communication systems in accordance with business needs and applicable regional standards for manufacturing operations.
  • Provides technical support and analysis for the resolution of process deviations, investigations, and issues in both automation and electrical related issues.
  • Works together with the maintenance team on daily basis for troubleshooting support and optimization.
  • Performs basic PLC software modifications (logic and HMI modifications).
  • Performs software modifications testing together with the organization’s Automation/System Integration partners.
  • Trains others on the use, inspection, maintenance, and repair of existing and new equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
  • Assists the team in complying with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Electrical or Process Automation Engineering, with a minimum of 7 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in manufacturing.

Other Qualifications

  • Strong skills and experience in Process Automation System (PAS) software and hardware.
  • Extensive knowledge of low voltage electrical design (associated with PAS installations).
  • Strong experience in system communication protocols and networking.
  • Knowledge of Process Control Systems and software to support specification, selection, installation, and on-going support of new systems.
  • Mechanical reasoning skills, including the ability to analyze and trouble shoot a variety of manufacturing related equipment.
  • Business acumen to understand cost standards, operating system costs, budgets for project capital projections and operating costs for these systems.
  • Problem solving and reasoning ability, can mentally process and comprehend complex issues involving multiple variables.
  • Determination and assertiveness to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Personal integrity and ability to conduct themselves and their job responsibilities autonomously in an ethical and non-discriminatory manner.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
