Operating from the headquarters of this medium-sized market leading multinational, who is a part of the TER Group which generates around €1 billion, you will work and interact with colleagues from different departments.

R&D department

Innovation is fundamental to Paramelt’s success, the R&D department lies at the heart of this. Paramelt aims to supply targeted products to fit our customer’s application requirements and provide technical support to ensure good product performance and optimization of the customer’s process. To provide this critical capability, Paramelt has a dedicated research & development department encompassing several different disciplines: material science, physical & chemical processing and analytical science.

You will be working in a focused and highly collaborative culture, benefitting from the experience of internationally diverse colleagues that you’d expect to find in an expanding, innovative and professional company. To further strengthen the department, we are looking for a self-starter with strong initiative to fulfil this newly created role.

Job description

As Product Specialist Packaging, you will be responsible for the research & development of innovative product solutions and new chemistries across all fields of packaging applications. This includes functional coatings for heat seal and barrier on paper, film and foil as well as laminating adhesives and board coatings for both corrugated and rigid board. You will make sure all the work is carried out in a safe manner by respecting all regulations, safety precautions and PPE/PDM requirements.

In short, this is a very varied and challenging position combining both product development and real out-of-the-box innovation. You will interact with sales, purchasing and production departments as well as customers, suppliers and other external partners.

Key responsibilities

In your role, you will be responsible for:

  • leading the development of new product platforms to complement our existing product range, which currently includes water-based polyolefin dispersions and wax based coatings and hot melts.
  • expanding our technology base to encompass materials coming from bio-based or recycled origin.
  • expanding the range of applications we address to include water based, solvent-free and solvent-based laminating adhesives, gas barrier solutions and functional over print varnishes.
  • proactively search out new ideas and technologies both from within and outside the organization.
  • ensuring that intellectual property is protected by thorough reporting and patent filing.

Your profile

For this exciting position, we are looking for a suitable candidate who:

  • has at least 5 years of R&D experience and a proven track record of delivering innovation in the field of packaging coatings & adhesives.
  • is preferably educated to at least bachelor’s degree level in a scientific discipline (such as material science, chemistry, polymer science, life sciences or related) or have demonstrable experience operating at this level.
  • has firsthand experience in heat seal and barrier coatings, inks and over-print varnishes or laminating adhesives in the packaging industry.
  • has a hands-on mentality with well-developed laboratory and analytical skills.
  • is pragmatic, entrepreneurial, creative and strong in autonomously planning and executing work across various projects and supervising a small development team.
  • understands critical processes, chemistry and structure/property relationships, to deliver effective solutions.
  • can demonstrate a proven ability to invent and innovate and is strong in the design and analysis of experiments.
  • is fascinated by addressing material challenges and passionate about improving sustainability. You are able to address the key challenges of product innovation in new application fields and drive technology change towards more robust and sustainable solutions across our portfolio of packaging coatings and adhesives.
