Purchasing department

The Purchasing department is responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies, tracking metrics to reduce expenses, negotiating deals, and managing suppliers for our locations in Heerhugowaard and Veendam. The team ensures clear requirements, forecast market trends and collaborate with stakeholders. Their role involves analyzing costs, assessing and mitigating risks, and determining optimal delivery quantities and timings.

This position is central to developing integrated processes across internal functions such as R&D, Finance, Operations and Logistics. You will oversee strategic sourcing analysis, identifying opportunities to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and capabilities of the sourcing function.

Job description

As a Purchasing Manager, your role will involve sourcing raw materials as well as managing suppliers. You will be responsible for performing strategic procurement activities across various spend categories, aiming to find better deals and more profitable suppliers.

Your expertise in supplier relationship management and negotiation skills will be crucial in ensuring cost-effective and high-quality procurement. Additionally, you will analyze market trends, benchmark prices, and mitigate risks to optimize the procurement process. Together with the Planning & Logistics department you will monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand. You will make sure our customers always have a security of supply, even in a market with structural shortages.

By leveraging your knowledge of supply chain management and your ability to identify opportunities for improvement, you will contribute to the overall success of our organization’s purchasing operations.

Key responsibilities

In this position you report to the Global Purchasing Manager, and you will be responsible for:

  • managing the purchasing department
  • developing, leading and executing purchasing strategies
  • tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • crafting negotiation strategies and closing deals with optimal terms
  • visiting suppliers both local and overseas
  • managing purchasing related CSRD requirements and supplier audits

Your profile

A Purchasing Manager should have strong leadership capabilities, a talent for negotiation and networking and strong analytical skills. You should be familiar with sourcing raw materials, have business-to-business sense and strong skills in gathering and analyzing data. Additionally, you should have solid judgement along with decision making skills and be proficient in supply chain management and supplier management software.

For this challenging position, we are looking for a strong candidate who:

  • has at least two years relevant experience within a similar position
  • has at least a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration or related field
  • has demonstrable experience operating at the required level
  • has affinity with raw materials in the chemical industry
  • is interested in the market dynamics, along with business sense
  • is pragmatic, enterprising, creative and strong in planning and executing work in various projects/tasks
  • has strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Dutch, whilst additional languages would also be an advantage
